This Amalfi Coast wedding was seriously a slice of la dolce vita! Kelsey and David came over from New Zealand for a European summer holiday and they decided to sneak in a secret Italian elopement while they were here! Ryan and I flew over from London to shoot the stills and video, and eat all of the mozzarella di bufala we could get our hands on.
As designer of bespoke label (Kelsey Genna) Kesley designed her own dress embellished with floral embroidery inspired by the bold colours of Amalfi with a little hint of Dolce & Gabbana. One of the coolest wedding dresses I’ve ever seen and it perfectly suited Kelsey’s romantic style. David looked dashing in his blue suit and Italian silk tie.
The night before the wedding we went sailing in Positano at sunset then ate pizza and prosecco in the bustling local square. On the morning of the wedding Kelsey foraged in the gardens of the house we were staying at (a converted monastery and vineyard) for flowers to make her own bouquet. She did her own hair and makeup and helped David straighten his tie.
The ceremony was held by the deputy mayor in the gardens of the Ravello town hall. With a translator and a couple of interested locals looking on it was the perfect mix of intimate and unconventional. We spent the day driving the steep and windy roads of the coast, dodging vespas and looking out over the glittering mediterranean sea. Every corner turned bought something new to fall in love with. Pastel coloured homes clutching the cliffs, tiny private beaches, carts overloaded with giant bright yellow lemons. We found silent stone churches and bustling laneways. We ate gelato on the sunny streets and sipped limoncello at Mama Agata’s private garden.
As the sun set we descended on Amalfi beach for dinner at Ristorante Marina Grande. The 10 course seafood degustation with matching wines was absolutely perfect, overlooking the red and white striped umbrellas folded down for the night.
