The Abel Tasman National park at the top of the South Island is Miriam’s spiritual home. So, even though Awaroa Bay is only accessible by boat, light plane or walking, and even though she was organising the whole wedding from her home in Seattle, and even though Damian is Australian, it had to be an Abel Tasman wedding! The isolation of the location made it all the more magical as the guests stayed for three nights on the baches scattered along the beach. This meant everyone had ample time to enjoy bush walks, swimming and kayaking in the clear waters of the Bay. New friends were met and old friends had long overdue catchups. Bouquets were made from wild flowers foraged in the bush and the girls did their own hair and makeup. Miriam and Damian were relaxed and glowing as the barefoot bride and groom. It was perfect in its simplicity.
